mobilization against the closure of day care at the nursing home

Around fifty people gathered this Monday, November 18 to demonstrate against the threat of closure of the Seyne-les-Alpes day center. Families say they are worried about the care of their loved ones.

This Monday, November 18, caregivers gathered in front of the Vallée de la Blanche public health establishment in Seyne-les-Alpes, to demonstrate against the closure of its day center. This strike is at the initiative of the CGT which denounces the “will and threats” of the Regional Health Agency to close the service which notably allows caregivers to breathe. All defend the interest of the day care system which allows caregivers to breathe and maintain social ties. Currently, seven families benefit from this service.

“We have a lot of people, whose parent has a neurodegenerative disease. The primary objective is to keep the patient at home,” explains Malika Sabar, staff representative.

In front of the public health establishment in Seyne, families are worried about their loved ones. For 4 years, Mireille's husband has benefited from this daytime reception. “Two days a week, Malika comes to pick him up and brings him back to me around 5 p.m..”

During this day, patients are stimulated. “We can work on memory and motor skills, but it also allows us to create social bonds,” emphasizes Malika Sabar. Faced with this situation, families feel abandoned:

“I don’t know what I’m going to do if we no longer take care of him,” notes Mireille. “It’s a real moment of respite for us, the caregivers.”

The ARS is awaiting proposals

The ARS, for its part, points out an organizational problem and says it is ready to find solutions. “We want to maintain day reception in Seyne-les-Alpes,” underlines the director of ARS 04, Bertrand Biju Duval.

The objective for the ARS is to have a service which operates at maximum capacity. “Currently its activity is not sufficient,” he adds. It represents around 30%, the director of the ARS is therefore awaiting solutions and proposals from the public health establishment: “Discussions are underway”.

Originally, an injunction to close the day center was to be issued on December 1st. However, faced with the mobilization, the ARS took a step back by transforming this injunction into reflection. At present, the day center remains open.
