Tuesday November 19, 2024 promises to be windy and rainy. The famous organization Météo France took the decision to set up a yellow vigilance for the wind which will be effective in 70 departments of France.
A range of warnings for a variety of weather conditions
The yellow warning for wind is not the only concern of Météo France. In fact,other weather alerts are underway in these same departments. Among other things, 37 departments are on alert for rain-flooding, 3 for floods, 10 for waves-submersion and even an avalanche alert in Haute-Savoie.
The cause of these disturbances is a depression which currently circulates between Ireland and Germany. This depression is responsible for bringing large quantities of rain to the northern half of France, with accumulations reaching between 10 and 20 mm over a large part of the territory. Météo France emphasizes that these rains will be “long-lasting”.
Strong winds and snow in the forecast
In addition to rain, this depression will also generate strong winds in the Channel corridor. Wind gusts of up to 100 km/h are expected on the Normandy coasts. In addition, “on the relief and the north of Corsica, the wind becomes stormy with 120 to 150 km/h in gusts”, warns Météo France.
Finally, snow could make an appearance by the end of the week, particularly in the plains. The first showers of snow are expected for Wednesday, followed by real falls on Thursday. This snow could cover Normandy and Ile-de-France with a white coat before reaching the eastern mountain ranges.
