After five years of proceedings and several changes of investigating judge, the case of the death of Allan Lambin will see its legal outcome. An order for referral to the criminal court was issued by the investigating magistrate on November 14, 2024. Four police officers from Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine) will have to answer for involuntary manslaughter following their police custody. It ended in tragedy.
Declared dead in the cell
On the night of February 9 to 10, 2019, the 19-year-old young man died in the premises of the Saint-Malo police station. He had been placed in a sobering-up cell after his arrest, following a car accident in Dinard. He was then deemed fit for police custody by a doctor. After feeling unwell and falling, Allan Lambin was declared dead at 1:10 a.m. His father, Franck Lambin, was held in a neighboring cell that evening.
Complies with the request of the prosecution
In December 2023, the judge in charge of the investigation issued a notice of end of information in December. The four police officers in charge of monitoring the victim at the police station that evening were indicted for involuntary manslaughter, in accordance with the requisitions of the Rennes public prosecutor’s office, made in May 2023. The prosecutor then requested their referral to a court correctional. He was therefore once again followed by the investigating judge, the eighth in this case. As the appeal deadlines have not expired, the hearing date has not yet been established.
