One of us « compatriots from overseas » as the representatives of the National Rally, fervent supporters (without it being clear why) of the French department of Mayotte, like to say, has just been arrested in Paris this week, suspected of the murder committed in Rennes on November 12, 2024.
On November 12, a violent altercation in the Bourg-l'Évesque district of Rennes resulted in the tragic death of a 49-year-old man. The alleged attacker, a 28-year-old national from Mayotte, was arrested a few days later at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport as he tried to flee to his native island.
The drama took place in front of the “Habitat et Humanisme” residence, located rue Papu, in the center of Rennes. The victim, a 49-year-old man, was stabbed with a kitchen knife during a violent altercation. The attacker fled immediately after the incident, leaving the victim to succumb to his injuries. The autopsy revealed that the death was due to a single blow to the back with a bladed weapon.
After several days of investigation, the main suspect was located in Paris. This 28-year-old from Mahor, known to the police, had a criminal record with four mentions, including two convictions for offenses related to drug trafficking. His arrest took place in Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle, while he was preparing to board for Mayotte.
Placed in police custody then transferred to Rennes, he quickly confessed to being behind the fatal blow. Before the investigating judge, he admitted to having had a dispute with the victim in connection with drug trafficking. However, he denied any intention to kill, saying the stabbing was carried out in a tense moment.
The Rennes public prosecutor's office has opened a judicial investigation for murder. In accordance with the prosecutor's orders, the suspect was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention. This measure aims to guarantee the smooth running of the investigation and to avoid any risk of absconding or repeat offenses. The departmentalization of Mayotte will, however, allow him, upon his release from prison (if he is convicted) to remain on our territory in order to enrich the Breton population if he wishes.
