“The fire started in an 800 m² storage site. It is believed to have started from a tractor, before spreading to the building. After their rapid arrival on site, the first firefighters noticed a fire located on a mezzanine with hot gases spreading to the ceiling,” explained Captain Didier Isson, commander of rescue operations, shortly before midnight.
“The first action was to extinguish the main fire, then it was necessary to evacuate the hot gases located in the upper part of the metal structure,” he continues. We installed smoke extraction fans to extract them: there was a risk of the roof catching fire, and these gases had already deformed the structure. »
This structural deformation implied a risk of collapse. “On this type of frame, the concrete walls are pushed outwards in this type of situation. We therefore installed security perimeters near the walls which could collapse,” reports the COS.
No injuries or technical unemployment
Thanks to the action of the first team to arrive on site, led by Captain Jumetz, the main outbreak was brought under control within approximately an hour. At midnight, “smoke extraction, clearing and clearing” operations remained to be carried out. Captain Isson specified that the operation was likely to last a few more hours, in particular because of “the insulation made of sandwich panels, where the fire starts inside”.
