Ivan Demidov and SKA St. Petersburg were in action today.
From the outset, you should know that the Canadian’s hopeful started the match on his team’s 4th line.
His usual companion, Evgeny Kuznetsov, was on the first row:
The first period was fairly quiet.
Demidov spent a total of 5:14 on the ice in six appearances and took two shots on goal. Nothing too spectacular, then.
But during the second engagement, things started to brew.
The forward collected his 20th point of the campaign when his shot was deflected from the slot:
The rest of Demidov’s match was pretty ordinary.
He was punished for roughness at the end of the second period and barely touched the ice for the rest of the game.
In the end, he made 14 appearances on the ice and finished the match with a playing time of 9:54, an assist and two shots on goal. He now has 20 points in 29 games this season in the KHL.
I can’t wait to see if Roman Rotenberg will use it a little more in the next SKA duel…
But in the match, it was especially Evgeny Kuznetsov who stole the show.
The former Capitals and Hurricanes pulled a real rabbit out of his hat by scoring “a Michigan goal”… Live from the slot.
No, it’s not a prank.
And no, I didn’t believe it was possible either:
Kuz then did his classic celebration by doing the bird on the ice.
The sequence couldn’t have ended better, hehe.
On a serious note, this is definitely one of the most creative goals we’ve seen in recent years. Kuznetsov showed magic and the result is fantastic.
We will see this goal in the games of the year and there is no doubt at that level.
In burst
– Kasperi Kapanen on waivers. Should Kent Hughes claim him?
– Reminder: there are six games tonight in the National League.
– It was about time.
