A concrete increase in gas prices
Since the end of regulated prices in June 2023, the PRVG has served as a benchmark for consumers, allowing them to compare gas offers. Published each month by the CRE, this indicative price guides individuals among around thirty offers, around ten of which strictly follow its evolution. With the PRVG for December 2024 increasing, many subscribers will see their bill increase. And as winter increases consumption, this increase comes at a particularly bad time for households.
In December, theThe price of the average kilowatt hour (kWh) rises to €0.14135 including tax for cooking/hot water uses and to €0.11237 including tax for heating, representing respective increases of 2.2% and 2.8%.. Although the subscription remains stable (€114.30 for cooking/hot water and €277 for heating), this increase in kWh could weigh heavily on households during the winter.
Consumers facing the rise
This increase in the PRVG is explained by the volatility of natural gas prices, influenced by a tense international situation according to the consumer association UFC-Que Choisir. Supply remains fragile, while global demand can create strong variations. After marked increases in July and October 2024 on the wholesale markets, but also and above all by an increase in the price of natural gas distribution networks (ATRD), followed by a slight decrease in November, up to 1%, the PRVG illustrates a generally worrying upward trend.
The increase in PRVG in December will have a direct impact on the bills of many households. Consumers must be vigilant: comparing offers remains essential. Some suppliers follow the evolution of the PRVG to the letter, leading to automatic increases. In this context, households must consider reevaluating their contract or opting for more advantageous alternative solutions.
