In kyiv, as in the rest of the country, millions of Ukrainians experienced yet another night of anxiety on Sunday, November 17, punctuated by air alerts and explosions. Because the country suffered a large-scale Russian attack on the entire country. The main target of these attacks was the country's already very fragile energy network.
From our correspondent in kyiv,
For the first time in almost three months, the Russia once again launched a barrage of 120 missiles and 90 drones on several Ukrainian regions. Their targets: the country's energy infrastructure, already badly damaged, as explained by Pavlo Bilodid, spokesperson for DTEK, the largest private energy supplier in Ukraine.
« It was the tenth attack this year, and they did as usual, with the same methods: sending a large number of missiles and drones. The main goal for them is to goddestroy our electricity generation capacity and our substations, which they have succeeded in certain regions. »
During these strikes, two employees of Ukrenergo, the state energy supplier, were killed in Odessa, while l’Ukraine was already struggling to rebuild infrastructure already damaged by previous attacks. “ Since then, we have rebuilt a lot, we did everything to be ready for this winter, but the level of destruction was already so high that it was impossible to restore everything », explains the DTEK spokesperson.
« It was still scary last night »
In kyiv, a few hours after the strikes, residents tried to return to normal life, despite the permanent danger hanging over them. “ It was still scary last night, but we're used to itsays this resident of kyiv. I think we're really living in terrible times, because every day a lot of people are dying, people who are just trying to live, who are just going home to have dinner or to go to bed normally, to be with their family or to watch a movie, to go out , meet friends. But despite everything, we understand that sooner or later everything will end and we will fight for it. »
In Mykolaiv, two women died and seven people were injured. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, two railway workers were also killed. And in the western region of Lviv, a 66-year-old woman also died in her car under the debris of a downed missile, as Ukrainians fear the attacks are only the prelude to a new wave of Russian destruction.
