For me, having an activity on X is pure masochism or complete madness; For a long time now, in my opinion, this social network has resembled a day hospital. Of course, things haven't gotten better since the takeover by Elon Musk, firstly because of Musk himself, who asked his engineers to make it super visible – which is understandable on the part of a man who paid more than 40 billion dollars to afford this “thing”. So obviously, you have to avoid Twitter. For my part, I would rather swallow a bowl of scorpions than make a tweet.
Not only should we leave Twitter, but we should also demand damages from the platform, or more precisely that the public debate should do so, because I am struck by the terrible harm that this social network has caused to the national conversation, even to the global conversation. It's not just what we already know: the spread of false information, conspiratorial nonsense and other idiotic judgments; it is not just cognitive bubbles that confine us and radicalize us in our respective blinders; it is also a decline in the art of dialogue, replaced by a taste for provocation and the practice of invective. In short, all this is known.
But what questions me is the following: is the problem Twitter, with its bellicose and pro-troll algorithm, or is it the very principle of the social network? I am not far from leaning towards the second answer. As someone who, on Facebook, only frequents groups for runners and cyclists, I have even seen discussions degenerate between supporters of inner tubes and supporters of tubeless (tyres which do not have them). In other words, social networks are not simply a technique, but a meta-technicaland they generate behavior. In other words, the same causes will produce the same effects, and it is the very principle of the social network which attracts the troll – that is obvious – but also, and this is more serious, which “trolls “the human soul.
Waiting for the next step, which I fear, given what we know, promises to be much worse.
