Elimination CAN 2025 – Alaixys Romao (Togo): “We won, but there are a lot of disappointments”

Despite its elimination during the 5th day after its defeat in Liberia (1-0), Togo finished the CAN 2025 qualifiers well by beating Equatorial Guinea (3-0) on Sunday during the 6th and last day of qualifying. Although disappointed by the elimination, Alaixys Romao, part of the selection, is delighted with this victory obtained at home. He hopes that lessons will be learned from this elimination for future events.

Of course, we won, but there are a lot of disappointments, since we had a lot of objectives for this CAN and we were keen to qualify. But it's really frustrating to be eliminated just against Liberia. Without disrespect, normally Liberia is within our reach. Unfortunately, we only took one point against them.

There is trash in previous matches, so we will have to work on it. It's also up to us, the players, to realize what we are capable of and above all to have more objectives. That's it, above all. When we come to the selection, we only come for one thing, it’s to win, that’s all.”
