A residence on 120th Street in Saint-Georges was razed by a major fire around dinner time Friday evening.
According to the director of the Saint-Georges fire safety service, Frédéric Morin, emergency services were called to the scene around 4:50 p.m.
Even before they arrived on site, the flames were visible from a distance as was a large plume of smoke.
The fire spread to a building used as a warehouse at the rear of the residence and threatened a neighboring house.
The firefighters therefore went into defensive mode.
Embers also ignited a fire, which was quickly brought under control, on the roof of the Tapis Venture factory, explained Mr. Morin.
Still according to the director of the fire service, strong explosions would have taken place since debris was projected at “surprising” distances. However, at the time of writing these lines, it is impossible to know what caused these explosions.
Finally, it was not possible to know if one or more people were inside the residence when the fire broke out.
Between 30 and 35 firefighters intervened on site and remote load shedding was requested from Hydro-Québec.
