EXPLANATIONS
What could be the consequences of this trial, particularly in view of the next presidential election?
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
The prosecution requested five years in prison on Wednesday, including two years with amenable periods, as well as a five-year ineligibility sentence against Marine Le Pen. A fine of 300,000 euros was also requested against him.
This is his first interview since the prosecution’s requisitions became known. Four eight hours earlier, at the trial of the RN parliamentary assistants, Marine Le Pen, the leader of the RN deputies in the National Assembly, became aware of the fact that the prosecution had requested, in particular, a sentence of ineligibility of five years. He also asked to combine it with provisional execution, i.e. immediate application, even in the event of appeal.
An announcement which could see his possible presidential candidacy hampered, unless appeals and court decisions allow him in fine to run in 2027. These requisitions sparked a wave of protests on Wednesday on the right of the political spectrum, including the former Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin.
It is in this context that the elected RN of Pas-de-Calais responds this Friday to Anne-Claire Coudray.
