Located in Merlan, in the northern districts of Marseille, the student residence Le Campus has been a victim of squatters for several years.
This Thursday, November 14, several expulsions took place, explains the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture.
Fourteen squats evacuated
State services carried out, this Thursday, theevacuation of fourteen squats within the Campus residence. “This evacuation took place without incident, in application of the assistance of the public force granted as part of the forced evacuation procedure provided for by article 38 of law no. 2007-290 of March 5, 2007,” specifies the prefecture.
“A fifteenth case remains under investigation to this day.”
A residence scene of numerous violence
As highlighted by France Blue Provence During several reports, the residence has, for many years, been prey to acts of violence: squatting, rape, murder, the co-owners of these accommodations appealed to the State.
According to some of them, then contacted by our colleagues, “the majority of squatters are undocumented immigrants from the Maghreb”.
276 accommodations in the residence
This co-ownership of 276 housing units in total has been under provisional administration since July 2023.
“Since the first reports relating to squatting situations, state services have been particularly mobilized to restore order in this residence,” the prefecture further specifies. “Thus, owners were made aware of the importance of
launch the appropriate procedures, allowing evacuations yesterday.”
