The defendants’ lawyers want to ban an ultra-right rally

They decided to file a complaint. Bilel Hakkar and Elise Rey-Jacquot, the lawyers of two defendants in the case of Thomas’ death in Crépol, want to ban a gathering in “memory of Thomas and all the victims of immigration”, scheduled for November 30 next in Romans-sur-Isère, by the collective “Justice for Nôtres”.

On Wednesday, the two lawyers went directly to the public prosecutor, reports Bleu Ardèche. “This collective creates the conviction that security would come through the rejection of immigrants. For us, this characterizes the offense of public provocation to discrimination or hatred,” Elise Rey-Jacquot told local radio.

Threats on social networks

Since the announcement of this complaint, the lawyers have been the subject of numerous violent remarks and threats on social networks, fueled by the account of the group organizing the rally.

“We must never accept that some people exploit misfortune to stir up hatred and provoke clashes,” wrote the PS Romans/Bourg-de-Péage section addressing the mayor of Romans-sur-Isère, Marie-Hélène Thoraval and the mayor of , Nicolas Daragon, and requesting a ban on the gathering to the prefect of Drôme.

As France Bleu points out, the municipal opposition of Romans-sur-Isère had also requested a ban on this gathering from the prefect of Drôme in an open letter.
