“Are we waiting for the drama?”slips a teacher of economics and management, completely annoyed. In front of the Jean Monnet high school in Libourne, in Gironde, a meeting was held this Thursday, November 14 at the end of the morning. It follows the third death threat letter, of a racist nature, that a professor has received in less than a year. When teachers say they are angry, students confide their fear and incomprehension.

For many teachers, this is the last straw. Two days ago, Tuesday, November 12, a science and technology professor received a racist death threat letter under her doorstep, while she was teaching. A sad habit for the teacher, who already received one last September, then another in December 2023. This Thursday morning, several teachers asserted their right of withdrawal and gathered in front of the establishment.

We are not reassured, we do not feel supported.

“Are we waiting for a Samuel Paty or a Dominique Bernard to have more resources?”asks Edwige Robledillo, professor of economics and management at the Jean Monnet high school. In one year, since receiving the first death threat letter targeting her colleague, the teacher regrets the lack of resources implemented in response to these threats. “As long as there is no blood, there are no means”she added.

However, the teachers formulate their requests: “we want to be informed, we want the police to stay longer around the high school, we want more supervisors and resources in this investigation”Edwige Robledillo list. She regrets not having more leads concerning the author of the death threats. “It can come from an adult, as well as a student”she thinks. And specifies: “some students have already made racist remarks, their names are known to management.”

Among the students, worry dominates. “It’s scary to know that a teacher was threatened three times in this same high school, probably by the same studentindicates a high school student. Three is still a lot, and she didn’t ask for anything. It’s worrying.” For his part, another high school student admits to being confused. “We don’t know what’s happening and why.. We were not informed, nor were our parents.”
