Faced with the success of platforms Ago et Shein (fast fashion) specializing in discounted prices and for products mainly shipped from China or manufactured in China, Amazon is launching a new service called Amazon Haul.
Only accessible on mobile and via the Amazon Shopping application, Amazon Haul (currently in beta) is currently limited to the United States. The shopping experience is centered around clothing, fashion, home products and electronics.
All items are $20 or less. A majority of them are sold for $10 or lesswhile some items start at $1. However, customers are encouraged to fill their carts with discounts of 5% on orders over $50 and more, and 10% on orders of $75 or more.
Amazon sacrifices fast delivery with Haul
Delivery costs are $3.99. They are free for orders of a minimum of $25. Amazon further clarifies that Amazon Haul orders are not eligible for its Prime membership.
Delivery times are announced fromone to two weeks. Customers still benefit from free returns with Amazon Haul, even if the period ends 15 days after delivery, instead of the usual 30 days across the Atlantic. Additionally, items with a price of $3 or less are non-returnable and non-refundable.
To seduce with Amazon Haul, Amazon will be able to assert a trusted mark and its warranty, while ultimately working with sellers similar – and mainly based in China – to those of Temu and Shein.
” Amazon reviews products offered by sellers in Haul, so customers can be confident they are receiving products that are safe, authentic, and compliant with applicable regulations “, writes Amazon. It nevertheless remains a copy of the strategy of Temu and Shein, right down to the flashy aspect of Amazon Haul.
In the context of the election of Donald Trump
The arrival of Amazon Haul is no surprise. She had been on the run for several months. CNBC had notably highlighted shipments directly from China to the United States, without going through the group's warehouses.
With the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States, however, Amazon could face a problem related to a 60% tax on imported Chinese products.
