“It makes sense to come to Vendôme”

Julian Bugier and the entire 1 p.m. team  2open the newspaper's relocation season with a live broadcast on the Vendôme market, Friday November 15, 2024. A special edition, focused on food, short circuits, and the future of farmers.

Why did you choose Vendôme for this season premiere?

“Everyone will think that I’m chauvinistic and that it’s because I come from Loir-et-Cher! But not at all, it makes sense to come to Vendôme. We were looking to anchor the show in an agricultural region. The city and its community offer several interesting initiatives and favor local producers who see opportunities in supermarkets or specialized stores. In this territory, there are many breeders, cereal growers, wine growers… A summary of agricultural professions. We wanted to get news from our farmers, after the crisis we experienced. We also felt that anger was returning to this environment in recent weeks. That said, when we decided to focus on this theme, we had no idea that the FNSEA was going to call for a day of national mobilization on November 18. It is a relocation which will therefore be very relevant to current events. »

“When we write a newspaper, we do it for all French people”

You will settle on the market, that must be a change from television sets…

“The Vendôme market hall is very beautiful and will provide a great setting. It's obviously a way to stick to the subject of eating better and short circuits that we're going to address during the show, and it's also an opportunity to meet people, to give a voice to everyone, both producers and consumers. We do not pretend to find solutions to agricultural problems with the wave of a magic wand. Our goal is to present initiatives that move in the direction of progress and to show that it is possible to buy local, to provide a living for the farmers in your territory, without considerably increasing your bill, because that is also what interests the viewer. The market lends itself well to this type of subject. »

Is it necessary to leave to discuss these subjects?

“I think it’s healthy to get off set. We feel that there is a need for expression on the part of the French, especially since the last political crisis and the dissolution. In my opinion, it is fulfilling our duty of public service to meet people and share stories. It's very satisfying for a journalist. I grew up in the region, in the countryside, and already at my time we felt very far from Paris. Especially since we are in a country where decision-making is very vertical. However, most people live in small towns. When we write a newspaper, we do it for all French people, not just city dwellers. »
