Indeed, that night, she allegedly suffocated her little boy following an argument with her partner. The latter would have learned of Emilie’s infidelity. The man decided to break up. He slept on the couch while Emilie went upstairs where little Ethan was sleeping peacefully. The next morning, when the father woke up, he thought that Emilie had left with the little boy. The reality was much more unspeakable and cruel.
The “Suicide Bridge“
The man discovered the child’s lifeless body. The latter had sharp object injuries to his cheek and chin. Wounds from which blood was flowing, which undoubtedly made the grieving father think that they had caused the death of his little boy.
The autopsy later determined that the child had actually been suffocated. The two sharp object wounds were not fatal.
According to her explanations, after discovering the lifeless body of her child, Emilie decided to leave the scene with her vehicle. “It felt like a nightmare“, explained the Liège public prosecutor’s office. “She had dark thoughts.“
She headed towards the Visé region which she would have crossed regularly before on her way to a previous job.
While investigators tried to locate her vehicle using its GPS beacon, she kept moving. In reality, she would have gone back and forth near the “Suicide Bridge” located in Cheratte. This 37 meter high bridge which overlooks the E40 in Blegny has been the scene of drama many times.
The greatest calm
It was not uncommon to see people decide to take their own lives by passing on the other side of the bridge barriers to throw themselves into the void and fall back onto the highway below.
So much so that around twenty years ago, the SPW carried out a series of developments, notably erecting high barriers to prevent candidates for acts of desperation from falling on vehicles traveling on the highway. .
Plainclothes police officers passed the location several times before discovering Emilie’s vehicle. When the police approached, they saw the lady coming out of the thickets near the bridge. The latter addressed them in a totally incredible way. She would have told them, in the greatest calm, that she had made a big mistake and was preparing to make a second one. It was then that she explained to the stunned police officers that the big mistake she had made was to “cheat on her husband!“The second being that she probably wanted to take her own life…
She would therefore have had no words for her little boy. A blood-curdling lunar exchange. Emilie will soon appear before the council chamber which will have to decide whether or not to extend her arrest warrant. From a source close to the case, even the most seasoned investigators who worked on this case are, understandably, particularly marked by this dramatic affair.
