Murder of Thomas in Crépol: for the parents, an endless “nightmare”, says their lawyer

Who carried the fatal stab wound to Thomas during the winter ball in Crépol, on the night of November 18 to 19, 2023? Nearly a year after this tragic and widely publicized event, the investigating judges received several victims and families of victims this Tuesday at the court. They notably explained to these dozens of people the means mobilized for the investigation, in order to show that justice is taking its course with appropriate means. “important”according to the testimony of people who attended the meeting. If the secrecy of the investigation prevents us from knowing much more, the author of the fatal stabbing of Thomas still does not seem to be identified.

“We were told it was still going to be a long time”

“There has been no progress in this direction, this meeting has not allowed the family to move forward in understanding what happened”explains without bitterness Me Alexandre Farelly, lawyer for Thomas’ family. In this case, fourteen people were indicted, including eight placed in pre-trial detention. Hundreds of hearings were carried out, without the truth emerging. “We know it’s a long time, we were told it was still going to be a long time, we accept it at the cost of rigor”adds the lawyer. He is asked: how is the family, one year after the murder? “Imagine your worst nightmare, imagine that you never wake up, you have the beginnings of an answer”.

Questions and “collective trauma”

In this extraordinary affair, several dozen people have already become civil partiessome injured physically, others morally. This is the case of the person – who will remain anonymous – defended by Me Isabelle Ceyte, present at the meeting this Tuesday. “There are numerous constitutions of civil parties of collateral victims, this meeting aimed to answer certain questions, in particular those of the civil parties who have not been heard”. She is satisfied with the means deployed for the manifestation of the truth, but she also speaks of the civil parties present this Tuesday as being hard hit, a “trauma” according to her “all the more difficult to overcome because it is collective”.
