Toulouse. What is this impressive construction site in progress behind the Palais des Sports?

The excavators have been at work for several months already. HAS Toulousebehind the Palais des Sports, a vast construction site has been underway since this summer, bringing down entire portions of the building. After the asbestos removal phase, time for deconstruction… before reconstruction?

A big project in this professional high school

This is the Hélène Boucher vocational high school which is getting a makeover. And not least. Some three years of work are planned to secure the entrance to the establishment, extend and completely redo its main building.

A third of the latter will be completely rebuilt with new premises, a larger canteen and fitted kitchens. Administrative premises will be grouped there and the new building will allow a interneda high school houseand knowledge center and one multipurpose room to see the light of day.

The rest of the building, that is to say the last two thirds, will be restructured. Goals ? Complete the needs in hair salons and reorganize the medical-social center.

As a reminder, the Hélène Boucher high school trains students in hairdressing, aesthetics, cosmetics and perfumery, but also in the professions of hairdresser wigmaker, caregivers, childcare assistants and facilitators in the social and health sectors.

End of construction planned for 2027

But before these steps, no less than 2,000 m² must disappear. They will allow a restructuring spanning 750 m² and construction of up to 4,500 m². All in two major steps : the first between summer 2024 and summer 2026, the second until summer 2027.

Total cost of the operation? 27.8 million euros.Restructuring and extension work entirely financed by the Occitanie Region.

Note that this is not the only high school currently under construction in the center of the Pink City. That of Saint-Sernin is also experiencing several works actively started at the start of the September school year.
