Incident between a motorcycle and a train in Mehun-sur-Yèvre, rail traffic disrupted

Train traffic was disrupted this Tuesday in Mehun-sur-Yèvre: the driver of a motorcycle apparently lost control of her vehicle near the rails, while a train was arriving.

Rail traffic was disrupted, after an incident in Mehun-sur-Yèvre, this Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Rue du Four à chaux, a motorcycle found itself on the rails facing a train, without passengers on board, driven by a 45 year old woman.

The events occurred around 5 p.m. The driver of the two-wheeler is a 17-year-old young woman from Quincy.

Loss of control

According to the first elements collected, the young driver lost control of her motorcycle due to a gearbox problem, causing her vehicle to involuntarily move towards the railway tracks.

She had the reflex not to try to recover her motorcycle when she realized that a train was on the track. The medical assessment, carried out on site by two ambulances from , revealed no injuries, neither for the pilot nor for the driver of the train.

Around fifteen firefighters, from the Mehun-sur-Yèvre, and Bourges barracks, intervened, leading to a total shutdown of traffic on the network. The SNCF indicated that traffic should resume around 6:30 p.m.

Although no trains were blocked on the tracks, some were nevertheless held at the platform. The impact was deemed “very minimal” by the SNCF.
