Marc-Jules Chouinard, 48, from Gaspé, who would be involved in the death of two young adults in a road accident that occurred on May 11, 2023 in Gaspé with his son Simon Dufort-Chouinard, 19, saw the public prosecutor filed new charges of second-degree murder against him on November 5, which meant his imprisonment.
The judge of the Court of Quebec, Anne-Marie Jacques, summoned the accused to trial at the end of his preliminary investigation.
Five counts were added, two of second-degree murder, criminal negligence causing death, criminal harassment, carrying a weapon and making death threats.
The one who was released more than a year ago and back behind bars at least until his return to court on December 2.
It is at this time that his lawyer will have to communicate his position regarding whether or not to hold a release investigation as well as setting dates for the upcoming trial.
Gabriel Noël, 19, from Lavaltrie, and Dylan Samuel-Francoeur, 18, from Gaspé, lost their lives during these events.
Two successive collisions
“The investigation, under the responsibility of the Personal Crime Investigation Department of the Sûreté du Québec, tends to demonstrate that two subsequent collisions occurred on Route 132 in Rivière-au-Renard, on May 11 around 1 p.m. 45. The vehicle in which the two victims were traveling was allegedly involved in both collisions,” reports SQ sergeant Hélène St-Pierre.
The accused’s son, Simon Dufort-Chouinard, is charged with the first degree murder of Gabriel Noël and the second degree murder of Dylan Samuel-Francoeur.
He is also charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death.
He must also return to court on December 2 at the Percé courthouse.
