The PlayStation 5 Slim is a slightly smaller and lighter version of Sony’s PS5. If the more powerful PlayStation 5 Pro has since been released, it does not necessarily justify its investment of 799 euros, without a disk drive what’s more. But here, for Black Friday, you can combine a reduction and a promo code to order the standard PS5 Slim for less than 500 euros.

Sony offers a smaller, lighter console

Sony’s PS5 had a difficult start to life: a commercial success offset by a shortage of components which meant that for more than a year, it was available sparsely and disappeared as soon as it was put online. Since then, things have improved, even if there has been inflation since it went from 499 euros to 549 euros.

Today, everything is better, and Sony has even allowed itself to release, as with previous iterations, Slim versions of the PS5. You therefore find a console measuring 358 x 96 x 216 mm and 3.2 kg instead of 390 x 104 x 260 mm for 4.5 kg on the standard version. A console that takes up a little less space and is lighter, still with this divisive look. However, you can always buy colored faceplates to brighten up the console a little.

A powerful console to play the latest games

On the hardware side, there is a little better. The standard version had an 825 GB SSD of which only 664 GB was usable due to the operating system. Here you have a real TB of storage on the console, with 822 GB for you, which is no small thing considering that some titles exceed 100 GB.

Another new feature in this version: the disk drive is removable. You can remove it to switch to a digital console and vice versa, practical if you have a friend who doesn’t have a player and you want to lend it to them. In addition, disassembly is done quickly, it is clipping/unclipping. Finally, you have two USB-C ports on the front, compared to one USB-A and one USB-C on the standard version.

In terms of performance, it’s the same thing, only the PS5 Pro offers a small improvement (and again, you have to have compatible hardware and a trained eye to see it). So if you have a classic PS5, the investment may not be wise. On the other hand, if it’s your first PS5, it’s clearly worth it.
