Change at the Belgian Union: Vincent Mannaert takes over as technical director

Vincent Mannaert is the new sports director of the Belgian Union (URBSFA), this was confirmed on Tuesday morning.

The former manager of Club Bruges, aged 50, succeeds Frank Vercauteren in this position, whose contract was expiring. Mannaert will take office on December 1. He is bound until the end of the 2026 World Cup. Vincent Mannaert was CEO of Club Bruges for thirteen years (between 2011 and 2024, editor’s note). He obtained six Belgian Champion titles, a Belgian Cup and six qualifications for the group stage of the Champions League, recalls the URBSFA.

The man had initially sought the position of CEO of the federation which was finally entrusted to Peter Willems on September 19. “I am very excited to take charge of the sporting direction of the URBSFA. The Red Devils face a significant challenge ahead of the 2026 World Cup, and I am very excited to put my passion and my experience in high performance and talent development at the service of the federation and national teams”declared Mannaert on the Belgian Union website.

“With his experience, his strategic vision and his passion for sport, we believe that Vincent Mannaert is the best choice for the role of sports director”specified for his part Peter Willems. “We are very confident that he will take the national teams to the next level and continue the development of Belgian football in the long term.”
