Geneva: Fifog d’Or for the film “Take my breath” by Nada Mezni Hafaiedh

The Tunisian film “Take my breath” by Nada Mezni Hafaiedh won the Fifog d’Or, grand prize in the international competition at the Geneva International Oriental Film Festival (Fifog), in Switzerland.

Unanimously, the Jury decided to award the FIFOG D’Or to “Take my breath” by Nada MEZNI HAFAIEDH. A film which was able to dexterously exercise a delicate and taboo subject, as well as the acting, the scenography and the soundtrack. The same source also announced that Amina Ben Smail won the Best Actress Award for her role (Shams) in Take My Breath.

Released on October 25, 2023 in theaters in Tunisia, after having made its world premiere at the Warsaw Film Festival, Poland (October 6 to 15, 2023) where it was selected in official competition, “Take my breath” tells the story of Shams, 23 years old, seamstress living on an isolated island and a hostile social environment, with her mother and her disabled sister.

The young woman, seemingly calm and quite discreet, carries within herself a heavy secret that she dares not confess to anyone and the revelation of which will end up turning her life upside down.

Shams was born with a sexual variation. She experiences this conflict between the sexes, hormonal and psychological, and before her situation is revealed, she leaves her village in search of an identity
