On this day, November 11, Nîmes celebrated its reservists with the ceremony of creation of the marching battalion of the 6th light armored brigade

This mobilizable unit, under the orders of General Seiler, is intended to fulfill operational defense missions.

If November 11 is the anniversary of the armistice of 1918, it is also a day dedicated to the army-nation link and to honoring the commitment of active and reserve soldiers.

The 6th light armored brigade thus decided to highlight its reservists (soldiers who serve temporarily), through a ceremony for the official creation of the marching battalion of the 6th light armored brigade which was held on the square in front of the Nîmes arenas.

Operational defense missions

“This marching battalion of the 6th BLB is a 100% reservist structure formed from the reserve units of the brigade's regiments. Its staff is also made up of reservists. The marching battalion of the 6th BLB has four companies , or around 300 soldiers It is the result of training which started in April 2024 and which ended with a certification exercise: the Victrix exercise from November 8 to 11 at the Garrigues camp. explains Captain David Guitard, ccommunications advisor to the commanding general. In fact, “lThe marching battalion of the 6th BLB is intended to be a mobilizable unit under the orders of General Seiler, commanding the 6th light armored brigade, with a view to fulfilling operational defense missions (securing sensitive infrastructure, area controls, information searches, etc.) on the national territory and to act mainly in the rear zone”.

As a reminder, the armies have around 40,000 reservists. The Ministry of the Armed Forces wishes to double this figure by 2030 in order to deal with current crises and threats. “With the establishment of a reserve tactical staff, we are changing scale. The reserve companies from all the regiments of the brigade will be able, in the future, to act in concert,” specifies one on the side of the 6th BLB, which with its headquarters in Nîmes, has nearly 9,000 soldiers (including 1,500 reservists).
