This update could transform the way you use Google

Google is reportedly preparing an update to its voice interface that will allow you to get the answers you are looking for more quickly. In a publication on the social network

Currently, when you tap the microphone icon on the Google app, the search engine listens to your query and then displays results that match the keywords you said. But with conversational search, Google would continue to listen to you, after displaying the results. So, after seeing these results, you would have the option to ask another question directly related to the first query, and without having to press the microphone again.

In the example given by AssembleDebug, the user first asks for the location of the Taj Mahal. The search engine answers this question, but instead of stopping there, it keeps listening, allowing the user to follow up with questions like “Who built the Taj Mahal?” or “How to get to the Taj Mahal?”.

More natural interactions with the search engine?

For the moment, caution is required, since this new feature has not yet been confirmed by Google. But in any case, at a time when it faces competition from companies like OpenAI or Perplexity, the firm has an interest in innovating, by offering smoother and more natural interactions on its flagship product. As a reminder, Google has already deployed AI Overview, responses generated by generative AI, in around a hundred countries. Google also launched Gemini Live, a voice interface that rivals ChatGPT's advanced audio mode.

And on its Gemini search engine, Google continues to offer new features, such as the possibility of controlling connected home devices using Gemini, via an extension linked to Google Home.

  • Google is reportedly preparing a significant improvement to its mobile search engine, which will allow you to chain questions without having to press the microphone icon each time
  • For the moment, this functionality has not been confirmed, but Google would benefit from offering this type of novelty, given that it is facing increasingly tough competition
  • Otherwise, Google also continues to improve Gemini, its direct competitor to ChatGPT
