Côte-d'Or: Longvic town hall is looking for a restaurateur for its town center

If in , there are dozens of restaurants, in Longvic it is quite the opposite. In this town adjacent to the Burgundian capital, the only establishments serving table meals are located on the outskirts in industrial zones. Others offer takeaway pizzas or kebabs, but nothing to sit around a table or on a terrace in the city center for its 8,800 inhabitants. However, there was, until 2020, still a bar restaurant “les Pommerets” which functioned well, but the establishment closed when its owner retired. It's been years since the project to set up a new establishment was launched by the municipality and for the moment, it's nothing!

An implementation project included in the redevelopment of the town center of Longvic

It all actually started five years ago since it was part of the city center redevelopment project at the time. The work is finished and the place to set up this restaurant is ideally located, explains Céline Tonot, the mayor of Longvic. “The premises are located in the castle park, now open to the city center since the redevelopment work. There are also many possible connections from the town hall since we made a footbridge over the Ouche and then connections with the new Mandela Square.” explains the first magistrate.

The building is also located near the conservatory, but also associations and a children's area. This very popular place with lots of greenery and, icing on the cake, with space to install a large terrace. However, these multiple assets are not enough to attract applications.

The health crisis of 2020 has been there

“We had two serious candidates in 2019. Then there was the covid crisis which happened there. It led them to withdraw from the project because it was already weakening their first activity because they were already two professionals of catering who wanted to set up a second business And therefore, with the problems that we know very well in catering and particularly in terms of personnel, this could complicate the activity, including that already in place. adds Céline Tonot.

The town hall therefore relaunched its call for tenders in November 2022 with the union of restaurateurs and hoteliers UMIH, but also in the specialized press. So it's been two years now, but since then, the calculation of the candidates has been quite quick for Céline Tonot.

“More candidates, and I think that, here too, these are still the consequences of the covid crisis. Today we are trying to relaunch because we say to ourselves that after four years, there may be a stabilization in risks. And above all, we can find other project leaders.” hopes the mayor of Longvic. The municipality is even ready to take charge of a large part of the work to be carried out in the building, in particular that concerning a load-bearing wall to remove this financial burden and this responsibility from the future restorer. On the other hand, she prefers to leave the kitchen equipment to the professional, so that it is as adapted as possible to her needs, but everything is negotiable, insists the municipality.

The site also allows for the installation of a beautiful shaded terrace.

An expectation from the inhabitants of Longvic

By interviewing people of all ages in the streets of Longvic and near the chosen site, we quickly realize that the residents regret this absence of restaurants in the town center. And everyone hopes for the establishment of a simple establishment offering traditional or family cuisine.

“It's true that a restaurant wouldn't be a no-go because there's not much to eat here, apart from a kebab or a pizzeria, but that's it. So yes, why not? “ enthuses a young dad. “Indeed, there is no restaurant. We were told about one that should have been there normally in the park but it fell through. When we go to the restaurant, it's in Dijon or in the countryside.” explains a retired couple. “It's still lacking. It's true that there isn't much else. You always have to go to Dijon or the Toison d'Or” regrets a woman, shopping cart in hand as she leaves the city center hypermarket. A young couple, on the other hand, recognizes that they do not miss a restaurant and specify that they would prefer the establishment of a competitor to the Intermarché so that the prices are lower. Notice to volunteers, and if you are ready to embark on this adventure, do not hesitate to contact Longvic town hall. She will welcome you with wide open arms.

The site is located in the castle grounds, very popular with families.
