Invited this Sunday on BFMTV, the Paris police prefect detailed the important security arrangements planned for the France-Israel League of Nations match which is to take place this Thursday at the Stade de France. Following this announcement, the Elysée announced that Emmanuel Macron would attend the meeting.
“I want to reassure those who are listening to us and also send a message of firmness. The means that we are going to deploy will allow us to be extremely reactive to prevent any disturbance of public order, whether during the match, before or after,” declared Laurent Nuñez, before specifying: “There will be double control of spectators as well as an anti-terrorist perimeter around the stadium. 2,500 security agents will also be deployed – instead of 1,200 to 1,300 for the other matches, 1,500 others will ensure transport security.”
The police chief finally warned: apart from those of France and Israel, no other flag will be admitted within the stadium. “In the stadiums, there cannot be any message of a political nature,” he insisted.
These increased security measures follow the violence which broke out in Amsterdam on Thursday evening, on the sidelines of a match between Ajax Amsterdam and Maccabi Tel Aviv. Hundreds of Israeli supporters were the subject of a manhunt organized by pro-Palestinian rioters, which left around ten injured.
The measures announced, however, did not convince the Israeli National Security Council, which advised supporters against traveling to France for the match, warning of “risks of attack”.
