the essential
Tennis is now well established in the town and the club takes advantage of this to organize big tournaments.
After organizing its first official tournament approved 4th series in 2022 and two so-called multi-chance tournaments, one reserved for women, the other for young boys aged 12-14 at the start of summer 2024, the Montbartier Tennis Club has decided to launch into the big leagues by organizing its first official senior tournament, women and men, 4th and 3rd series (from NC to 15/1). The tournament was scheduled for two weeks, from October 18 to November 3.
Eighty players registered, covering all rankings, as well as all age groups and with participants not only from surrounding clubs but also from neighboring departments.
Interclub solidarity
For a first, it was a very good surprise for the organizers given the presence of other tournaments over the period. But it was also a challenge to take on with several competitions to manage: men's tournament, women's tournament, tournament for over 35s, consolation for those eliminated in the first round.
The planning of the matches was therefore all the more difficult for its referee Patrick Rousselot who had to take into account the gradual entry into levels, the availability of players, the marathon matches disrupting the schedule, but also the capricious weather at the start of the tournament with episodes of rain, an important element when you have two outdoor courts and a roof.
But it was done with inter-club solidarity which saw some of the surrounding areas make their indoor pitches available if necessary: Montech and Lavilledieu-du-Temple, thank you to them.
The club was also able to rely on its active members who succeeded one another over these two weeks for a smiling and relaxed welcome to the competitors in a clubhouse superbly decorated in Halloween colors and able to offer a warm-up room, a relaxing table football and various drinks at its bar.
All the matches took place in good spirit, some matches sometimes providing intense suspense, others their share of surprises where favorites were beaten to the delight of those less well ranked still hoping to be able to access the table of the best.
Under a beautiful autumn sun
The ladies' final, outdoors under a beautiful autumn sun, saw two players of a good level meet with, at the end, the victory of Daurine Sénac, from the Grisolles club, against Bérénice Palacio, from the Montech club (7/6, 6/1).
On the men's side, it was Timéo Falcou, from the Stade Toulouse club, who won against Guillaume Granier, from the Montbartier club (6/2, 7/6).
Beautiful finals which delighted the spectators present, each club having brought its share of supporters. The prize giving around a final prize was an opportunity to replay the match or remember the best points!
A real success for the first major tournament of this dynamic club, all the participants having all appreciated the quality of the tennis complex and the friendly welcome from the organizers.
