Floods in Spain: three heavy goods vehicles loaded with donations for disaster victims leave Vendargues

The headquarters of the Espace Renaissance association in Vendargues has been transformed into a warehouse for several days. Donations for flood victims in the Valencia region are pouring in. Eliane de Teyran drops off four bags of children's clothes: “This is my story, my grandparents emigrated from Spain, it’s obvious to me.”

Eliane's bags join the dozens of others that Jacqueline and Alexandra are sorting, they came spontaneously to lend a hand: “So that they can take as many things as possible, it must be sorted and arranged by category, shoes, jackets.” It is Isabelle, member of the association, who supervises, black marker in hand: “These ladies come from , from Poussan, it’s a beautiful chain of solidarity.”

With their Méditerranée Metropole Taekwondo tracksuits, Farès and Lucas close and tape the boxes and take them on the corresponding pallet. “Plus, it makes us learn Spanish: “ropa de cama means household linen.”

Some 99 pallets provided free of charge by a local company are ready to be loaded into semi-trailers. “These are trucks that came to deliver to and therefore had to leave empty” explains Joel Fernandez, president of Espace Renaissance.

Three volunteers from the association are accompanying the Spanish drivers and will stay at least until Tuesday to ensure that everything arrives safely and is distributed. Jacques is on the trip. “My grandfather was from Valencia, I have friends there, it’s really close to my heart to go there. I can’t wait to be able to give them all this help” he confides.
