“The deployment of ecoroutes is an important step in our commitment to sustainable development,” indicates the mayor of Bromont, Louis Villeneuve. We are proud to adopt this approach which is beneficial for the health of ecosystems and also our infrastructure. We believe it is possible to combine efficiency and environmental responsibility.”
More specifically, we plan to carry out “alternative” road maintenance in the targeted sectors in the Bromont territory. When clearing, abrasives will only be used at points deemed critical. “These measures help reduce the impact on wetlands, aquatic environments, as well as wildlife and plant habitats,” specifies the City.
This initiative stems from the Winter maintenance policy for public roadsrecently adopted by council members. “With more than 250 cm of snow precipitation on an annual basis, Bromont must maintain, over a vast territory, a network divided into different levels of service. Adopting good winter road maintenance practices aims firstly to ensure safety for users on public roads during their travel, optimize human and material resources, and finally to incorporate sustainable development into the municipality’s practices,” mentions the Municipality.
As this is a first in Bromont, this approach could be adapted during the season. The traffic lanes that are part of the ecoroute network will be marked with separate signs in the coming days.
In addition, an awareness campaign will take place over the next two months to inform the population about this initiative.
For more information regarding ecoroutes, citizens can consult the City’s website.
