With its in-house 3-cylinder in-line engine, you might think that the Zontes 703 F is going hunting in Triumph Tiger territory. But its displacement, its look, its equipment and its price make it a unique, unclassifiable motorcycle and one to watch closely because its potential is quite impressive.
Zontes 703 F 2025, in brief
- 3-cylinder 699 cm3
- 95 to 10,000 million/min
- 75 Nm at 7,500 rpm
- 228 kg in working order, but not at full capacity
- generous provision of equipment
- price between 8,000 and 9,000 and closer to €8,000
For a little year now, the pre-series prototype of this Zontes 703 F has been showing up everywhere at national events, proudly taking pride of place on the stand of GDFrance, its importer. But during the Milan show, we were able to approach its final version and finally discover its technical sheet. There is a lot at stake with this motorcycle for the Chinese manufacturer, since this is its very first excursion into the large displacement market, i.e. over 500 cm3. And the step is all the more important for Zontes, who claims to embody the future of the premium segment of the Chinese motorcycle industry!
And this will firstly involve originality: both technical and aesthetic. Zontes representatives at the Eicma show explain that the brand develops everything internally and wants to differentiate itself from its compatriots. As for the look, there is no doubt. It presents a very avant-garde frontcompletely covered by LED strips. Boldness could pay off at a time when established manufacturers (except KTM, Ducati or Yamaha) are all quite timid in their design. The Zontes 703 F is not only original in its line, but also brings some practical originalities. For example, we find a ” chest “ on the left side, all in length and singular, symmetrical in shape and location at the exhaust. There is also a dash-cam, delivered with 128 GB memory and hidden under the nose of the motorcycle and several small plastic baffles. Accessories in accordance with very road orientation of this machine. The big one reservoir of 22 L (in zinc-plated Japanese steel), the heated gripsthe key-less system, the port USB and the massive and adjustable bubble electrically, complete this rich standard equipment. Concretely, it is announced to be made to ride.
Now let’s get to the heart of the matter: the engine. It’s called L3 for 3-cylinder in line. It is cooling liquid, set at 120° (like the Yamaha MT-09, a classic timing for a three-cylinder in-line), cube 699 cm3 and develop 95 hp at 10,000 rpm and 75 Nm at 7,500 rpm (95.2 hp on the technical sheet strangely). Once again, the Chinese manufacturer defends its authenticity. It would be 100% homemade and we are completely ready to believe them. especially since its exterior casings do not remind us of anything known. Although we must admit that it seems a little strange to us that they did not opt for an electronic throttle on an engine that is supposed to be of the very latest generation. Particularly because it can deprive it, by construction, of certain modern electronic assistance. Like the shifter when going down… Which the Zontes only has when going up. The 703 F is however equipped with a traction controlof a ABS and of engine mapsall this being adjustable via a 6.75′ color dashboard.
On the chassis side, it is based on a mixed double spar frame in steel/aluminum, totally camouflaged by the plastic covering, an aluminum swing arm, spoked rims (in the catalog, there is a version in 19/ 17 and one in 21/18 inches), as well as Marzocchi adjustable suspensions (according to the website). Braking is entrusted to J.Juan 4-piston radial calipers. The “ready to ride” weight (i.e. without full fuel) is 228 kg, which is frankly not light for a 700 cm3, even three cylinders and with a cycle part partially using aluminum. The large, fairly high tank could penalize maneuverability via a felt high center of gravity.
The Zontes 703 F 2025 will be available in France from the first quarter of 2025 and we are told a price below €9,000 and even close to €8,000! Which would almost make it an economical alternative to the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally (21 inches / 108 hp / €17,195)! If it does indeed arrive at this price, this Zontes 703 F could find itself, almost, without direct competition!
