The Minister of Transport, Rachid Amri, ordered, on Wednesday, the development, as quickly as possible, of an action plan including an urgent rescue plan and a medium-term restructuring plan for the national carrier Tunisair.
This action plan also provides, according to a press release from the Ministry of Transport, a new governance plan adapted to the needs of the company, the acceleration of the amendment of the legislative texts in force to improve the competitiveness of Tunisair and the rationalization of human resources to guarantee them the required efficiency.
It is also about improving the quality of services and placing the regularity of flights as a main objective and updating crisis management measures, in particular, with regard to anticipation, supervision , intelligence and “precise and transparent” information.
The Minister of Transport also gave instructions to develop the “corporate communication” component within the company according to the delicate circumstances it is going through. He also ordered to put in place a renovated information system allowing the company to avoid confusion and uncertainty for travelers and other stakeholders.
The Ministry of Transport indicated, to this end, that it “is closely and continuously monitoring the situation of the company in coordination with the general management of Tunisiair, and that other measures will follow the decisions currently taken.”
The objective being to support the national carrier, preserve its sustainability and restore its former glory.
The measures announced by the Department of Transport come following disruptions that occurred on Tunisair flights, during the period from November 1 to 5, 2024.
According to the ministry, the recent disruptions are due to material damage affecting various planes, specifying that this damage is the result of “irresponsible” and “nonchalant” conduct towards the public company and its property.
The company “Tunisair” indicated in a press release on Monday that it had rented three planes to strengthen its fleet, following these disruptions. It added that it will cover the costs of changing or modifying reservations, following the requests of passengers who can contact its services by telephone or email.
