In a recent interview with Pablo from the radio station 93XBenjamin Burnley, frontman and founder of Breaking Benjamin, shared his thoughts on the reception of their latest single Awaken and on the process of creating the next album. In full transparency, Burnley explained why the group prefers to take their time to deliver a quality album, rather than giving in to the pressure of speed.
“We want to give the best of ourselves in every song”
Burnley outlines Awaken as the fruit of intense and uncompromising work on the part of the group: “Everything we do, we do it to the best of our ability, and that’s all we can do.” He also revealed that he prefers to keep a certain distance from listeners' feedback in order to avoid the pressure of success or failure. “I let the piece live its own life,” he confides, emphasizing the importance for Breaking Benjamin of producing coherent albums, where each song is meticulously worked on and without “filler”.

A methodical artistic approach: “We don’t like to be rushed”
When asked about the creative process, Burnley emphasizes the need to take the time to do things right. The pandemic, he says, has slowed the group's inspiration, but Breaking Benjamin doesn't want to compensate for that slowdown by rushing. “We could probably finish an album tomorrow if people wanted it, but it wouldn't be as good as it could be,” says Burnley, adding that each piece deserves careful and thoughtful treatment.
Finding the balance between evolution and authenticity
Burnley also addressed the challenge of innovating while remaining true to Breaking Benjamin's sound, a delicate balance for many bands. “There are those who complain that you sound the same and others who love you for it,” he shares, acknowledging that the group continues to experiment with new sounds while maintaining its identity.
