The bodybuilding section of the Biasaise maintenance gymnastics association, affiliated with the Fédération Sportive et Gymnique du Travail, had sent eight athletes last Sunday to Marmande to compete in the second round of bench press of the 2024-2025 season, counting as the Aquitaine Cup and, thereby, qualifying for the French championships on June 14 and 15 in Challans, in Vendée.

The protégés of President Marcel Barbaroux and Vice-President Georgette Chalada confirmed the good form they had displayed on October 13 during the first round on October 13 in Sauveterre-de-Guyenne. Thirty competitors, from six clubs, battled it out at the call of secretaries Nicolas Brière and Jean-Paul Pic and under the watchful eye of the day's seven referees.

All the Biassais finished in first place in their age and weight category at the end of the three tests, with a particular mention for the V7 Georgette Chalada and the V5 Marcel Barbaroux, just recovered from injury, who happy to expand the team. The latter also included senior Emilie Cassou, V3 Myriam Trichet, V5 Cathy Barbaroux and Brigitte Sauvé, V3 Zbigniew Palicki and V4 Alain Delbosq.

Bias second in the club rankings

The Lotois club Physic 46, which also presented eight elements, took first place in the team ranking with 602.11 points ahead of Bias 503.78, Sauveterre-de-Guyenne 388.04, Marmande 308.04, Penn- d’Agenais 112.63 and Challans 83.14.

There are two rounds left to go, the third on February 9 in Sauveterre and the final round of the Aquitaine Cup on April 13 in Penne.

The meeting for the French championships in this discipline, which will be combined with that of athletic strength or three strengths (squat, bench press and deadlift), is set for June 14 and 15 in Challans, in Vendée. Led by Emilie, a recent graduate, Marcel, Georgette and Norbert, training is in full swing in the club rooms of the old village presbytery. There will be some downtime during the end-of-year holidays.
