A police officer was injured on Sunday in Auxerre by Rennes supporters, before the match between AJA and Rennes, during the 10th day of Ligue 1 football, reports France Bleu Auxerre. Three people were arrested and taken into police custody.
The Yonne prefecture issued an order on Thursday to regulate supporters of this meeting. It was notably planned “a mandatory meeting point” for Stade Rennes supporters, fixed “at 2:30 p.m. at the toll point of exit 19 of the A6 motorway“The police, according to this prefectural decree, were then in charge”to supervise the journey to the Abbé-Deschamps stadium, to the location reserved for parking visitor buses“.
But a good hundred Rennes ultras decided not to go to this meeting point set by the prefecture, several police sources explain to France Bleu Auxerre. These supporters, who arrived in the city center on their own, were finally found and then escorted by the police to the visitor parking lot of the Abbé-Deschamps stadium.
According to these sources, some wanted to force the police escort to return directly to the main entrance to the AJ Auxerre stadium. Clashes then broke out near Abbé-Deschamps. A police officer from the GSP (Proximity Security Group) was hit in the face. “We were dealing with determined people“, underlines a source close to the case at France Bleu Auxerre. The official was given ten days of ITT. His nose is broken.
Three men were finally arrested in the campsite parking lot, near the Abbé-Deschamps visitors area, after the start of the match. A man, suspected of being the main perpetrator of the attack on the police officer, is currently in police custody. He was detected positive in a first blood alcohol test, reports France Bleu Auxerre.
The Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, reacted: “A police officer was beaten while being attacked by Rennes supporters. Three suspects were arrested. If the facts are proven, this type of unacceptable behavior deserves the most exemplary sanctions“, he wrote on the social networkSupport for our police officers mobilized every weekend to secure matches which should be nothing more than sport and which see savages unleashed without qualms“, we can also read in his message.
The Alliance police union posted a photo of the police officer on X. He has bruises on his face and his nose looks visibly broken. The union wishes him a “speedy recovery“and brings him a”full support“to the injured police officer, criticizing violence”unacceptable“perpetrated by”pseudo Rennes supporters“.
