A 72-year-old man died this Saturday in Lyon after falling 20 meters from the wall of his climbing gym. According to the Climb Up group which reacted this Sunday in a press release, the septuagenarian “a much-loved regular at the venue, forgot to attach himself to the automatic belay system.”
In this press release the group managing the room writes: “It is with deep sadness that we confirm the tragic death of one of our climbers. This event is a painful ordeal for our team, and above all we would like to send our most sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the victim. Our thoughts are with them during these difficult times..”.
An investigation was opened to determine all the circumstances of this accident, and the room, which was to organize a week dedicated to safety from Monday, remains closed all weekend.
