U18 match summary: Liverpool beaten at Manchester City

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's side fell behind to a Divine Mukasa penalty at City Academy and Josh Sonni-Lambie's equalizer was quickly followed by a Kian Noble goal.

Both teams had chances in the rest of the match, but City grabbed one, with substitute Kaden Braithwaite scoring his third goal on 77 minutes.

The Under-18 Premier League North match started level, but the hosts took the lead before the quarter-hour mark from the penalty spot.

Liverpool were aggrieved by this decision when Matty Warhurst went down in the penalty area under the watch of Louis Enahoro-Marcus, Mukasa sent his kick-off from the right post.

The Reds almost managed to force their way through as they looked for a response, Clae Ewing sneaking in behind on the left to get into the penalty area, but neither teammate managed to connect.

However, they drew in 29 minutes. A free kick into the box from the left channel was unsuccessful and after Lucas Pitt and Enahoro-Marcus kept the ball alive, Sonni-Lambie beat goalkeeper Max Hudson from close range

.

But the parity was short-lived, which is frustrating. A City corner shot from the left flank bounced into the area near the post and Noble marked the line between the ruck and the entry

.

Mukasa curled a good strike wide of the right post from 20 yards as the home side looked likely to add to the scoresheet before half-time.

Warhurst launched a diving header from the center of the goal shortly after the interval, before a great chance fell to Kareem Ahmed at the other end.

Pitt's low cross from the right was only crossed towards the 'D' and Ahmed made lovely contact with a sideways finish that skimmed the wrong side of the left post.

Liverpool's fervent appeals for a penalty — Sonni-Lambie appeared to have been brought down by Noble — were later dismissed by officials.

City turned the tide late in the second half, Bailey Hall making a fine save and Pitt a crucial tackle to keep the deficit at one point.

But the hosts put an end to the contest 13 minutes from time, with Braithwaite scoring on the back stick from a deep corner, hoisted in from the right.
