Videos circulating on social media showed the buses in flames, releasing thick columns of black smoke near apartment buildings. The prefecture announced that an investigation was underway to identify those responsible for these acts of violence, promising a firm response from the state.

A climate of revenge

The mayor of Rillieux-la-Pape, Alexandre Vincendet, clarified that this violence was retaliation linked to the arrests. “They are trying to put pressure on us to leave them alone, but that is not an option. It is unacceptable for a minority to harm the tranquility of a neighborhood,” he declared.

The elected official also announced that he will summon the parents of the four minors to a Council on Family Rights and Duties next week. “The objective is simple: either they help us direct their children towards a better path, or they refuse, and in this case, we will suspend municipal aid. You cannot benefit from national solidarity if you destabilize the life of a neighborhood,” he added.
