: a boat catches fire without causing any casualties on the Bourbourg canal

With a length of 8.5 meters, this old sailboat occupied by a homeless person was on fire when he found it. The boat was moored on the Bourbourg canal, at the level of the bridge extending that of the Bateliers where the D601 extends.

Fourteen firefighters were involved in the fire.

On their arrival, firefighters from and Fort-Mardyck found the boat engulfed in flames. Time to deploy the means to put out the fire, the mooring lines gave way and the burning boat began to drift south. Emergency services managed to stop him before he reached the lock. They were able to use the water lances at the chip shop installed on the edge of the canal, near rue Roger-Verlomme. The Saint-Omer quay along the canal was closed to vehicles during the intervention, then traffic resumed on one lane until the end of the operations.

Once the fire was extinguished, the extinguishing was completed by removal of a foam mat over the entire hull of the ship. The relay will be made to the Voies navigables de (VNF) to take charge of the wreck.
