Nelson Monfort defends Cyril Hanouna in the face of C8's shutdown

The sports journalist was the media guest this Thursday on Franceinfo. The opportunity to review Arcom's decision to exclude the Canal+ group channel from DTT frequencies.

The sports journalist with a voice recognizable among a thousand was the media guest, this Thursday, October 31, of Célyne Baÿt-Darcourt on Franceinfo. And if the main subjects of this interview revolved around his replacement in figure skating at Télévisions, the messages of support received since this announcement, but also his activities in the theater with his friend Philippe Candeloro and soon on television as an actor fiction or occasional consultant, Nelson Monfort was also asked about the presenter of C8, Cyril Hanouna.

“You are one of his defenders, you say that there is relentlessness against him. Wouldn’t he hold out the stick a little to get beaten?”the journalist said. The guest initially responded by quoting Voltaire. “I don’t share your ideas but I will fight to the end so that you can defend them”he said, adding: “So, I'm not going to take myself for Voltaire but what I mean is that I don't like relentlessness, whatever its forms. And indeed, that there is an association which can ban a channel, even if I do not share everything that is said on this channel, I find that it does not resemble the France that I love.

Surprised by this argument, Célyne Baÿt-Darcourt stressed that the total amount of Arcom fines imposed on C8 amounts to 7 million euros. “What risks happening is that they really risk being arrested, but I find that in France, in the 21st century, tolerance is very important”he insisted before asserting: “I don’t follow all of his shows enough to know if there are any slip-ups or not. I believe there are columnists of different tendencies.” Nelson Monfort then spoke of one of them, whom he knows personally. “I think that Gilles Verdez who is an old friend, does not necessarily share all opinions”he said before apologizing for not knowing all the chroniclers by heart. Without strictly calling into question the work of Arcom, the sports commentator decided: “Go ban a channel, I find the pill to be very bitter”.
