“My family lost everything in the disaster.” Marta Peiro Gimenez, former player for Valencia, Huelva and Servette de Genève, launched an appeal for help on Thursday evening for her family hit hard by the brutal floods that occurred in the Valencia region. She opened a fund to help them and other victims of this “catastrophe”.
“Hello everyone. I am Marta Peiró, former player of Valencia CF, Sporting de Huelva and Servette. Some members of my family were completely affected by the DANA that occurred in Valencia. They lost absolutely EVERYTHING in this disaster: houses , furniture, cars, clothes, valuables etc. An entire life was lost in a few minutes”, says the woman who is today Team Manager of the Servette women's team.
A prize pool to help your family and the most deprived
“I have activated this fund where you can make any type of donation. The money will be sent in full to my family and to other Valencians in similar situations. Any help or distribution will be welcome, thank you!”, adds she said with a link to a prize pool, which has accumulated nearly 6,000 euros in donations.
The Valencia region has been hit hard by the so-called “gota fria” (“cold drop”) phenomenon, an isolated high-altitude depression that causes sudden and extremely violent rains, sometimes for several days. The toll, still provisional, from the floods which devastated the south-east of Spain this week now stands at 158 dead, according to an official statement from the emergency services published on the X network.
Of this total, 155 victims were recorded in the hardest-hit region of Valencia alone, with two other deaths occurring in the neighboring region of Castile-La Mancha and one in Andalusia. The press release did not specify the number of people who are still missing.
