Mahdi Fleifel wins the Antigone d'Or for his film “To a land unknown”

The 46th edition of the Mediterranean cinema festival ended on Saturday October 26. He crowned Mahdi Fleifeln, a Palestinian-Danish director, for his film on the story of two Palestinian brothers, refugees in Athens.

After a week of screenings and meetings, the Cinémed de Montpellier (Hérault) delivered its verdict on Saturday October 26.

In the main category, that of feature film, the Palestinian-Danish director Mahdi Fleifel won the Antigone d'Or for his film “To a land unknown”. The story of two Palestinian brothers, refugees in Athens, who dream of building their new life in Germany. A story that echoes his own, he who was born in a refugee camp in Lebanon, before making his life in Denmark and England, where he graduated from the National Film and Television School. The 1h46 film will be released in theaters on March 12, 2025.

The audience prize was awarded to Iraqi director Binevsa Berivan, for the film “The Virgin and Child”. It traces the life of a young woman who survived Daesh and who arrives in Brussels with the desire to seek revenge on the man who reduced her to slavery. The Young Public Prize for Social Energy Activities was also awarded to Binevsa Berivan.

In the other categories, Ali Cherri, for the film “The Watchman” won the short film grand prize. The prize for best documentary went to Samira El Mouzghibati, for “les Miennes”.
