It had become the symbol of the floods in Haute-: the Panga cow was found dead after being swept away by the floods.

The video showing her being swept away by the waves had gone viral: Panga, who had become a symbol of the devastating floods in the Center-East, was found dead, her breeders indicated on social networks.

“We found Panga”write on their Facebook account the breeders of the Groupement agricole d’exploitation en commun (Gaec) du nid, in Chambon-sur-Lignon (Haute-). “She traveled several kilometers before ending up in a meadow just before Tence,” they added in a message broadcast on Saturday and accompanied by a photo of the animal’s carcass, covered out of modesty with a crying face emoji.

Panga was part of a herd of five cows which had been caught by the waters of the Lignon, which entered a historic flood at the height of the floods on Thursday.

“They were surrounded by the Lignon. There was at least 1.50 meters of water on the plot with a strong current,” said Étienne Valla, the owner of the livestock, in a video from the local daily Le Progrès.

“Four fled to the banks and the fifth (Panga) went wandering,” he added.

Images of the waves as big as a wisp of straw for a cow struggling to keep its head above water have made the rounds on social networks.

“Thank you to the firefighters for their help and to all those affected by this story,” conclude the breeders in their Facebook message.
