Preventing forest fires in Peru is our priority

In recent months, forest fires have increased in Peru, affecting the Amazon and various regions of the country. This causes uncontrolled fires that destroy the flora and fauna, as well as the death of the inhabitants of the area. Overall, fires increased by 23% more than those recorded in 2023.

Currently, weather conditions are unfavorable due to high temperatures, winds and droughts in the Amazon. This is a factor because it spreads a possible wildfire.

Additionally, the main causes of wildfires are associated with tree deforestation and poor agricultural practices. These actions consist of burning vegetation to expand agricultural soils, but they are not carried out with adequate care and are uncontrolled.

This environmental problem in Peru is also present in different countries on the continent such as Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina. Then millions of hectares are lost. As a result, the air quality is contaminated by smoke from fires and unfortunately, this affects residents’ lungs and harms their health.

Finally, it is urgent to work on the prevention of this environmental problem with action manuals and support brigades because it will be more frequent in the years to come according to specialists’ projections. Additionally, state action with better laws that protect the environment and more strictly prohibit burning and deforestation of trees, will be key to mitigating uncontrolled fires.
