Notice to restaurateurs! The Lucien Vanel Prize is back with new categories

This gourmet Olympics is back! Each year, the Lucien Vanel Prize distinguishes best tables from the region. The competition opens its 11th edition, called “From the Earth to the Table…”, on the occasion of Taste Week. Registrations will be open from October 23 to December 1, 2024. And in fact, the prize offers some new features in terms of applications.

Producers now rewarded!

For the first time since the creation of the event, restaurants will be able to register in tandem with the producer/artisan/winemaker of Haute-Garonne of their choice. Thus, when the results are announced, the pairs in each category will be rewarded. The objective: to promote the excellence of local know-how.

“While our fellow citizens are turning more and more towards thoughtful and environmentally friendly food, we were keen to reward those who work in the shadow of restaurateurs and fully contribute to the quality of their tables!” declares Guy Pressenda, founder of the Lucien Vanel Prize.

Pastry in the spotlight

Overall, prices have been redesigned to be more in line with today’s dining experience. The different categories are now called “Grande Table”, “Bistronomic Table – Gourmande Table”, or even “Table du Midi – Bistrot Table”. A new section has also appeared: “Dessert Signature”.

This is a nod to the sponsor of this new edition, Philippe Urraca (Best Pastry Chef in ). Pastry, ice cream and chocolatier know-how will therefore be highlighted. “Finally, on the sidelines of the competition, the public will be invited to tell us the name of their table “Favourite of my territory”, whether or not it is entered in the Lucien Vanel Prize,” adds the organization.

Soon a new website

A registration form will be sent to restaurateurs. It will also be available on the new competition website, which will soon be online. Five territories are concerned: Toulouse Métropole, Pays Tolosan, Lauragais, Volvestre and Comminges. As a reminder, Lucien Vanel was an emblematic figure of Toulouse gastronomy. The chief had gleaned two Michelin stars with its legendary address Chez Vanel.
