FSV Gütersloh is delighted to announce that defender Merle Hokamp has been awarded the Fritz Walter Gold Medal by the German Association (DFB) in the U17 girls category. The awards ceremony will take place at a later date, to be announced by the DFB. This prestigious distinction highlights Hokamp’s exceptional development both on and off the field.

Merle Hokamp has established himself as a key part of second division side FSV Gütersloh, occupying a central role in defense as a regular starter. In addition to her strong performances at club level, she has also impressed with the national youth teams: Hokamp has already played international matches with Germany’s U15, U16 and U17 teams and is now part of the U19 national team .

During this edition of the awards, she surpassed two players from FC Bayern Munich II: Greta Hünten received the Fritz Walter medal in Silver and Laila Portella in Bronze. With this success, Hokamp won the Gold medal in a very competitive field.

“We are very pleased that Merle’s exceptional talent and development have been recognized with the Fritz Walter Gold Medal. This award is a well-deserved reward for his hard work,” said FSV Managing Director Michael Horstkötter. “We are incredibly proud of Merle and thrilled that his achievements are being recognized on a national level.”

The Fritz Walter medal has been awarded since 2005 by the DFB in Gold, Silver and Bronze to the best young players of the year. Since 2009, it has been presented in collaboration with the Fritz Walter Foundation. Merle Hokamp is already the fourth FSV Gütersloh player to receive this medal. Previously, Lina Magull (2012, Silver), Nina Ehegötz (2015, Silver) and Sophia Kleinherne (2015, Bronze) received this prestigious distinction.

The entire FSV Gütersloh congratulates Merle Hokamp on this great success, and we are proud to have him among our ranks.
