Carouge takes sole lead in Challenge League

Two of the three leaders in the ranking faced each other on Friday evening at the opening of the 11th day of the Challenge League. With 19 points, Neuchâtel Xamax and Etoile Carouge shared this honor with FC Thun, who will travel to Vaduz on Saturday evening.

For more than a quarter of an hour, the two French-speaking adversaries engaged in a round of observation… precisely without giving in. The Genevans, as usual since the start of the season, got their foot on the ball (59% possession) without creating a real opportunity, since they scored 0-1 (21st) on their first shot frame. He fell following a double loss of the ball by Yoan Epitaux (small slip) and Kénan Fatkic, well exploited by Vincent Nvendo served by Bruno Caslei. Neuchâtel goalkeeper Edin Omeragic could only brush the ball.

The end of the first period continued at this false rhythm. Xamax still created two goal chances through Guillaume Furrer and Koro Koné.

Faced with Neuchâtel residents who have proven on several occasions that they know how to turn things around, the visitors let the storm pass after returning from the break. Then, it was they who took over the game on their own, creating a big opportunity through Mathis Magnin and Marculino Ninte (58th). This new domination led to the 0-2 signed by Bruno Caslei who was able to pass through the Neuchâtel defense extremely easily on the hour mark.

From then on, the thing was practically understood. The 0-3 scored by Florian Hysenaj (85th) made this evening even more nightmarish for Neuchâtel Xamax.

In the ranking, Etoile Carouge has 22 points, Xamax remains at its 19 points. The Genevans therefore take the lead in the Challenge League. Which confirms that the newly promoted is having an incredible season.

Stade Nyonnais returns the match

On the Stade Nyonnais side, things took time to fall into place, but they still snatched the three points by turning the situation to their advantage in the last 20 minutes. The Vaudois managed to beat Wil 3-1, thanks to a penalty from Elias Pasche (72nd), an own goal from a Saint-Gallois (75th) and a counter-attack from Momodou Jaiteh in stoppage time. (92nd). They had conceded in the 11th minute.

This third victory of the season in 11 matches gives a little breathing space to Nyon, which with its 10 points temporarily comes back to the level of Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy, which will play Saturday against Bellinzona. The two Vaudois clubs share last place, just behind Schaffhausen (11 points), beaten by Aarau.
