Parisian elected officials seize the anti-terrorism prosecution after a tweet from Rima Hassan

Two elected officials from the town hall of the 17th arrondissement of announced the seizure of the anti-terrorism prosecution after a tweet from Rima Hassan, this Friday, October 18. Aurélie Assouline, deputy mayor and president of the 7 Octobre collective, published the letter, signed by her hand and that of Jean-Christophe Martin, municipal councilor, in which they condemn a message from the MEP, posted on X.

“The armed resistance of the Palestinian people is legitimate […] facing what Israel is: a genocidal and colonial regime whose objective is to achieve an ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians”wrote Thursday October 17 the executive of La insoumise. The two elected officials denounce a direct provocation to acts of terrorism.

The risk of “seriously disturbing public order”

“Madame Rima Hassan, accustomed to controversial remarks, now no longer hesitates to glorify and encourage what she describes as the resistance of the Palestinian people in a public manner”write Aurélie Assouline and Jean-Christophe Martin. These words are, according to them, “likely to seriously disturb public order”.

Direct provocation of acts of terrorism online is punishable by seven years in prison and a fine of 100,000 euros. Rima Hassan has, for the moment, not reacted to the publication of the letter.
